India: Brothers kill mother’s lover for 'dishonouring' deceased father

Dubai: In a horrifying crime, two brothers in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district brutally killed their mother’s lover, according to Indian media reports.

The accused, Sanjay Thakor (27) and Jayesh Thakor (23), were allegedly enraged over Ratanji Thakor’s (53) relationship with their mother, believing it dishonored their deceased father.

The attack took place on January 26 when Ratanji, a mason by profession, was working on a construction site with fellow labourers. According to police, the brothers launched a sudden attack, striking him with an iron rod before repeatedly stabbing him in the stomach.

Despite efforts by onlookers to intervene, the assault continued until the victim succumbed to his injuries, NDTV reported. Witnesses were left in shock and horror at the gruesome scene.

Ratanji had been in a relationship with the accused’s mother for years, which the brothers strongly opposed, claiming it brought shame to their family.

The victim’s son, Ajay Thakor, who later filed an FIR, revealed that the brothers had repeatedly warned his father to stay away from their mother.

The issue even led to a village council meeting, but no resolution was reached.

Following the murder, the accused fled the scene on a motorcycle, but police tracked them down within hours using mobile location data. Both were arrested, and the weapons used for the murder have been seized, officials confirmed.

An investigation is ongoing.
