The busiest station at International City 1 to accommodate 350,000 passengers
Dubai: Dubai is setting a new benchmark in transit infrastructure with the launch of the largest underground metro station, a central feature of the upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line.
This monumental project aims to transform public transport across the city and support the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
At the heart of the 30-kilometre Blue Line lies its most iconic feature: a massive underground interchange station located at International City 1. Spanning an impressive 44,000 square metres, the station is designed to accommodate up to 350,000 passengers per day, making it the largest underground metro station on the Dubai metro network.
Major hub
This state-of-the-art station will serve as a major hub in the Dubai Metro network, connecting the Blue Line with both the Red and the Green lines through Centrepoint and Creek stations, respectively. Its strategic position not only improves accessibility for commuters but also enhances the city’s integrated transport ecosystem.
By enabling seamless multi-modal travel, the station supports Dubai’s vision of a “20-minute city”, where essential services and destinations are accessible within 20 minutes.
The facilities include
Public bus terminals
Taxi stands
E-scooter and bicycle racks
Inclusive amenities for people of determination
The Blue Line itself will comprise 14 stations, including three major interchange stations: Al Jaddaf (Green Line), Al Rashidiya (Red Line), and International City 1. Once operational, the line is expected to carry 320,000 passengers daily, connecting nine major districts projected to house over one million people by 2040.
International City 1 station will serve as the main junction between the Blue Line’s two main segments:
A 21km route from Creek Station (Green Line) passing through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Ras Al Khor, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Academic City.
A 9 km route from Centrepoint Station (Red Line) through Mirdif and Al Warqa, terminating at International City 1.
This new interchange station not only boosts capacity and connectivity but also underpins key development zones like Dubai Silicon Oasis, a hub for innovation and digital economy, and Academic City, expected to serve more than 50,000 students by 2029.
