She now plans to devote her life to wildlife conservation back home
Dubai: South African expat Anneke Engelbrecht was in for the surprise of her life when she got a call informing her that she had won Dh100,000 in the UAE Lottery’s Lucky Chance category.
The 38-year-old physiotherapy and rehabilitation specialist, who works with a private hospital in Dubai, nearly dropped everything when the news sank in.
“I was like: ‘What?’. I went and checked, and I almost had a heart attack but a good heart attack,” laughed Anneke.
“I was like: ‘Oh! my soul. This really just happened’.”
A resident since 2016, Anneke already knows exactly what she wants to do with her winnings and it’s something close to her heart.
“I will go back home to South Africa and really devote my life to conservation in the Kruger National Park. That’s my passion. So that’s what I would use the money for, for sure,” Anneke added.
