When will Apple launch the iPhone 17? Do I want to buy it?

Apple devices haven’t had major upgrades in a while, so is the new one worth the price?

The next iPhone launch is just around the corner. Yep, the new one — the iPhone 17 lineup. This time, Apple is said to be rolling out four models: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, and the usual suspects — Pro and Pro Max.

Am I buying one? Hmm. Not sure. I already have the iPhone 14 Pro, and it still runs like a dream. So, do I really need an upgrade?

Whether or not I buy one, I’m always hyped about any new Apple device. I’ve been soaking in all the juicy leaks and rumours — they’re usually pretty spot on, barring a few fine details.

Apple’s big reveal is slated for September. I can’t wait. This year, the leaks suggest a new aluminium-and-glass body design. Honestly, I’m not thrilled. Been there, cracked that — my iPhone X fell and broke the rear glass, and fixing it was a struggle. Ever since, I’ve wrapped my phones in strong cases.

The camera upgrades sound exciting. A 24MP front camera and a 48MP rear shooter? Yes! The simultaneous video recording is cool. I shoot and edit a lot of video on my phone, so every camera and chip improvement counts.

Chips, Apple always delivers a faster, smarter one each year. That’s expected now — evolution, but no revolution. That’s where my excitement starts to dip.

Apple vs Android

I haven’t seen a significant leap in iPhone tech for a while. Everything feels incremental. iPhones are indeed reliable and safe. But I think Android phones have caught up. Some say they’ve even taken the lead. No, I’m not switching sides.

Call me a loyalist. Or an Apple freak. I’ve been with Apple since the iPhone 4, and every model I bought since has been smooth sailing. No drama, no regrets.

I’m still rocking my iPhone 14 Pro. Skipped the 15 and the 16. Didn’t find the new AI features compelling enough. So, will the iPhone 17 finally tempt me?

For now, I’m waiting for the keynote — that annual Apple event. According to the Forbes website, the event typically occurs in early September but never on the 11th. Can’t be September 9 or 10 since they clash with Berlin’s IFA tech expo, and the later dates are too close to launch deadlines.

So, circle September 9 or 10 on your calendars.

Until then, I’ll be watching the iPhone rumour mill spin.
