Dubai: If you are an expatriate living in the UAE on a residence visa, you have likely been issued a Unified Number (UID), also known as a UID number. But do you know what it is, why it's important, and how you can retrieve it?

What is a Unified Number?

The Unified Number or Unified Identification (UID) number is a unique number assigned to every expatriate issued a UAE visa. It usually consists of 8 to 10 digits and is permanently linked to your identity in the UAE. Even if your visa expires or you switch to a different type of visa, your UID number remains the same, while your visa number may change.

This number is tied to your Emirates ID and plays a critical role in identifying you across various government departments and services.

Why is the Unified Number important?

Your UID number is required for a wide range of government services and official procedures in the UAE. It simplifies identification and helps streamline your transactions with government authorities.

According to Sirajudeen Ummer, public relations manager at Galaxy Digital Business Services in Dubai, “The UID number is essential for several key processes, including:”

  • Preparing the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) offer letter.

  • Renewing or applying for a labour contract.

  • Applying for a new Emirates ID or renewing your existing one.

  • Converting to a new residence visa.

  • Registering a trade licence for business purposes.

Having your UID number readily available can save time when checking your visa status, updating personal information, or completing official documentation.

How to find your Unified Number online

If you don’t know your UID number, you can easily retrieve it online by following these simple steps:
