If you are considering changing your mobile network provider but want to keep your current mobile number, the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service makes it possible. Launched by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in 2013, this service applies to all UAE mobile numbers starting with 050, 055, 052, 054, 058, or 056. Whether you are a prepaid or postpaid customer, MNP ensures you can switch providers without losing your number.

Your mobile number is more than just a contact, it is often linked to your Emirates ID, bank accounts, and other critical information. While the thought of switching providers may seem time-consuming, the process is straightforward, quick, and free of charge.

How does it work?

The porting process is managed by the operator you’re switching to (your new provider). Simply place a request with your new provider, and they’ll handle the transition with your old provider.

For example: If you have an Etisalat number (050-ABCDEFG), you can switch to du while keeping the same number (050-ABCDEFG).

What happens to my prepaid balance?

Any balance or credit on your prepaid account will be forfeited during the porting process. It’s recommended to use up all credit and allowances with your current operator before initiating the switch.

Can I port my number if I have outstanding bills or contracts?

Yes, you can still port your number if you have outstanding bills or an ongoing contract, provided your line isn’t suspended or tied to a premium package. Once the porting is complete, you’ll be given a grace period to settle any dues with your old operator.

Important: If you fail to clear outstanding amounts with your old operator, your new line could be disconnected until the dues are paid.

How long does it take to port a number?

In most cases, the porting process takes one to two working days. You will receive updates via SMS from both your old and new operators.
